More practice on the east side of the moraine

Did some more practice with the equipment. On a bright stone on the softer slope of the terminal moraine, -on the east side of the lake. A few quick notes; I like using the swing arm as opposed toe the tripod head to get several photos of the rocks. Both really.  The helios looks great.  It was an overcast day, but the rock was in a clearing, beneath the sky.  We'll see.  I also found the path to the greater forest and trail system, Cranberry Mountain, etc,

waking up earlier

at the end of the day, I'm going to have to start my day earlier in the morning, four photography health exercise etc. when I miss exercise days I don't feel good, and the camper is small. clothes on the floor reduce my exercising, which is what happened this morning. no exercise no nasal rinse, anyway I got that boom in and it looks good I need an adapter but it seems as though it may work at least temporarily I want to check the weight, how it is with weight.
part of the problem with getting up early is that it's so cold in the camper.

aperture work

 1/13/24

I took some pictures around the pond today.  I hiked the around the south shore, up the mountain, and over the lateral moraine, then down through the swamp, over the north shore, then down the other moraine.  I cast the fishing line a few times on Addison rd.  Just mainly to get some data.  I may get another reel.  Feels like this one gets stuck.

I got some more info on my equipment needs.  If I’m going to be on the side of a mountain, with my lets spread, and in a position I want to know that my equipment is fast enough, and fits my other needs.  My distance from the subject in those cases, is close.  I want to be able to set up a tripod, and use the pan bar to get the images.

I’m learning to follow the fractures, to get a unit of language a morpheme, as I am with the striae morphemes.  Morphology is the study of word structure syntax is the study of sentence structure.

Anyway, with careful aperture  work to develop the contours of the face of the rock,  one can follow the fractures for interesting and pretty patterns.

Nevertheless, whether it’s uploading to a private folder, or using a flash drive, or both, I’ve got to map the workflow for these photographs. I’m thinking a lot of photography.

I’ve spent significant time looking at equipment.  You have to do the activity in order to know what tools you’ll need, in addition to reading up on the activity.  Fishing today was also helpful in that regard.

stitching programs

something else occurs to me; it's the veracity of my stitching program.  mmf-3, 20, or 25.  Why not the whole image photographed, and cropped with one shot? I can change contours and use multiple perspective, still I need more practice with the stitching programs

shared folder to work on photos

I'm going to have to find some way to build a shared folder between the two computers for the composing of these photographs printing exposing etc because I am working on the laptop in the camper, and on the desktop at the studio. I guess I can temporarily work on files the only files which would update automatically would be stuff in the drive the Google drive. so I could store files in the Google drive temporarily, then download them

A wide prime

Spent the day doing research,  clogging up the computer. I found the lens I'm looking for to work with the Laurentide series. It's really a long time purchase.  A wide prime. Prices for these lens seem to be rising.  I'im going to do some research with focal lengths tomorrow using the zoom.

Additional equipment

I thought I'd put much of the Laurentide sheet info in this journal, but I need to transpose that from the text notes on the Mac Pro.  The purpose is so that I'm not looking for interesting copy to put on the website.

Anyway, I'm looking at equipment to photograph nature, stones in particular.  I'm doing hand held drafts to see how the demands on positioning.  They're intense as I'd imagine. I bought a boom pole and clamp.  I want to manage the weight, and keep it from being an obstacle.

Also looking at lensing.  I like the performance of my Russian wide lens, the yenitsa I believe.  I want to see what I would do with a wide m4/3

Lorraisa Pics

I need to put the lorraisasa pictures in  a folder in on one computer, and have the software, the photo app update, or pull from the folder, so the folder can have different pictures, and there can be different folders for different computers so long as the same updater, the google photo app online for the store, is pulling from them all.

So I need to check and see that the pics can get pulled, uploaded, from the folder with no problem.

finally got that bolt removed from the wheel

 11/23/23

Happy Thanksgiving!  I finally got that bolt removed from the wheel.  If feels like some time ago, but the truth is, it’s been some time since I’ve written, I wonder if my fingers have something to do with it.  I’ve been having numb finger for a while now.  I’m glad I’m writing to tell the truth.  It’s partially because of the cold fingers, and partially because of busyness.

Interesting that I don’t have a journal for this computer.  It’s true that the keyboard is small.

It’s also true that I’m in the camper, and damn near about to go to sleep every time I’m in here.  It’s good.  I haven’t really written because things have been moving along.

In any case I’ve been in the camper, getting acquainted, and ready for winter.  I just got he gas water heater working, and he stove.  I went to my sister’s and got a propane tank, which had propane.  I gave a guitar to my nephew, which was emotional.  I called the guitar ‘gypsy girl’. Anyway, I’ve set the axiom up, and I’ve begun running piano scales.  Going to get another guitar, but there are deals on quality guitars that I don’t have to be impatient about because I’m running scales on the piano.

-I have to remember to fix the end link on my jeep.  I’ve got the part.  Basically, I’ve got to figure.out how to get it off the vehicle. I’ll park the jeep with the front facing the street, back it into the driveway.  Chock the wheels. It should be more level then as well.

the gravitas (?date)

With something like ‘the laurentide calf’ I want to display the gravitas the challenge is to evoke a sentiment which stirs the origins.
while puttin gorth the power which ravages within.  within the events of one’s life, environment, mental state. in an understated way.

the calfs were because of land structure and terrain, broke off and continued on into depressions, from which mountain springs and kettle ponds of today emerge.

the positions created by the subglacial crystals were created by gravity.

i want to display the gravitas.  I want to try, within the means at hand.

the rock tripe, or lichen represent age (? date)

to me, the rock tripe, or lichen represent age.

I see blooms of age, and I think about the history that has passed since then, and that it was there. a piece of that.

with the striations, one idea, is to capture ‘the wave’ of the flow.  I can frame it to show the wave too. the amplitude. probably not the frequency, although that could be inferred.

I wold like the ‘statement’ or the  element, or the theme of striation. So when I’m putting them together,

Laurentide calf

2/20/23

Laurentide calf

https://newenglandhistoricalsociety.com/the-kettle-holes-of-new-england/
Kettle holes came about with the retreat of the Laurentide ice sheet, which covered much of Canada and the northern United States. The icebergs it left behind got covered with sediment until they melted.
Kettle holes dimple the landscape south of the Great Lakes, Adirondacks and New England mountains. They then end around the 37th parallel along the southern borders of Missouri, Kentucky and Virginia. Thorson calls them a “blue galaxy” within 19 “kettle states.”

Striations, or Striae

Glacial striations or striae are scratches or gouges cut into bedrock by glacial abrasion.
Large amounts of coarse gravel and boulders carried along underneath the glacier provide the abrasive power to cut trough-like glacial grooves. Finer sediments also in the base of the moving glacier further scour and polish the bedrock surface, forming a glacial pavement. Ice itself is not a hard enough material to change the shape of rock but because the ice has rock embedded in the basal surface it can effectively abrade the bedrock.

So as I see it, this glacier moved along this way, toward that valley, where it became trapped, and the parent glacier’s meltwater built sediment around it, where it became submerged, and further melted into the pond behind the garage, which has a bowl beneath where the water from this glacier feeds.  it s kettle pond, a place of legend.
thoreau’s walden pond is a kettle pond, 100 ft deep.

quand meme notes gem

quand meme may also serve as an expression of a gemstone, in it's facets

cyanotypes, fairies, miniatures

I wrote in my journal that I could use cyanotypes to create the 'fairies' in the collages.  The quand meme series particularly.  As I understand that series, as well as la fenetre, or the looking glass subseries with 'liebling' and 'mogador' there seems to be a road theme, as there is in all my work, and I've been thinking of ways to express this, such as using light reflected from the pavement, isolating it as a shape in the crystal of the quand meme.

the fairy is something I've been developing.   the print made by natural light maybe better than I can get

Also, what about making the images miniature?  3x5.  It places an emphasis on clarity.  It brings the shadow and depth work to the foreground.  the 'fairies' would look more like fairies too.

Also been thinking about some infrared

inventory, proportions

I'll have to make a full inventory of the pictures I have, how many, whether they are framed, what needs to be made.  I'll also have to go through the site, and see if there, -or where are the image and product changes that need to be made, because the picture has changed. I also  have to get the new information about sizing.  I'm not too happy with large size, over 13x19.  I have to make sure the products are inline with their realistic proportions.  Maybe talk with the dudes at the lab.  The size indicators seem to indicate that I can go much larger.

Glass Lites

I found some resources for glass.  They should be searched under 'glass lites'.  It used to be you could google with only a partial idea of what you wanted.  Now, if you don't know the exact word.  You won't find what you're looking for.  You'll definitely be on a wild goose chase, that could last dangerously long.

Interplay of light and dark regions

When doing these quand memes, it's the landscape of the light and dark regions, which interest me most.  I don't need to get caught up in the deatails, until I can see it large and from a distance, in order to see the landscape(s) created with the light and dark regions.  The interplay between them.

Afterwards, I can detail the images in accordance perhaps, with the landscapes created.

I'm considering the case of l'odalisque.  I should defitenly look at the image on the whole computer screen to catch some of this.

This interplay is also represented well with 'when the night taper burns'.  It also brings new meaning to this piece.  Consider the girl is an artist and this vision, either brought on mythologically by this shadow, or represented a concretizing of her imaginights, when she is in this state of dream, or focus, or the zone, or something, wherein ideas come from, or some place.

'while the night taper burns' has many meanings.  the interplay she experiences, but he watches her, unaware of that which she sees in her mind.

Looking at these versions of the quand meme, should be a slow diving into the piece, first perceiving it as an abstraction then as a narrative which forms from the abstraction.

So again, it should be viewed large, as well as close. The auto-contrast is good, and brings out things that I'm not perceiving.
